Josh Samsa had the golden foot going for the Jackets, knocking home three goals in the 3-3 tie with Saints on the Sept. 26 ‘Parents Night’ for the Cambridge-Isanti boys.

A good back-and-forth match on the Bluejacket boys’ “Parents Night” saw Cambridge-Isanti and St. Francis finish with a 3-3 tie in Mississippi 8 soccer.

Just 1:30 into action, Sam Brown sent a long pass to Josh Samsa who tucked his shot away for a 1-0 Bluejacket lead. The Saints then came right back with a shot over the cross bar and a free kick wide left, and their offside traps frustrated the Jacket pushes upfield.

Just over the midway point of the half, the Bluejackets made a steal, and Samsa received the ball and put a roller into the right corner for the 2-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Nate Cox made a great throw-in to Samsa who banged home a left-footer to keep the pressure on. C-I’s Alex Heinen had two close calls on shots down the final two minutes of the half.

Despite defender Zeb Callahan stopping several attacking runs in the second half, the Saints adjusted their play and netted the three goals needed for the tie.

On Oct. 1, the Bluejackets continued their strong play by notching a 2-0 home shutout over Princeton.

Zeb Callahan played strong defensive games for the Jackets in their tie with the Saints and win over Princeton.
