Lorraine Bacon, 91, of Minneapolis, passed away September 7, 2013 in the Douglas County Hospital at Alexandria, Minn. while on vacation.

Viva Lorraine Klein was born in Chicago Aug. 14, 1922. At 9 days old she was placed in the Woodstock Childrens Home. While at the childrens home, she became so weak and emaciated that she could not draw a drop from the bottle.

For over a month the nurse would pinch the nipple holding it over her mouth, so she could swallow. Before many weeks she had pneumonia and her body became covered with boils. After becoming healthy again, Lorraines nurse felt sure God had spared her for some good purpose.

On June 1, 1923 Lorraine was adopted by Lemuel and Minnie Pierce Bacon of Henriette, Minn. She grew to be a happy and healthy young girl, attending school at Kanabec County School, later graduating from Mora High School with the class of 1942.

In 1952 she began work at the Bureau of Engraving as an executive Secretary and continued there until her retirement in 1988.

After retiring, Lorraine volunteered at the International Christian Literature Distributors until the time of her death.

She attended many churches and participated in many church activities over her lifetime joining a womans group, a Sunday School class, a Bible study, a sewing guild, singing in the choir, attending Bible Camp, always praising her Lord.

She attended the Silver Sneakers exercise class at the YMCA weekly, so enjoying when they would ask her how old she was. Her answer was, How old do you think I am?

Lorraines hobbies included playing the piano and singing. She had a beautiful voice and sang for many weddings and funerals. She also sang with the Salvation Army Choir.

She spent time visiting many friends at the nursing homes. She made many friends as she made her way around Minneapolis. There was always someone to go to lunch with. She enjoyed writing and sending cards and letters and buying gifts for friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending holidays in Erskine, Minn. with family. She was respected for her independence; her faith; her generosity; her love of her Lord, family, and friends, and she will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
