C-I Volleyball takes down Saints in four

SPORTS ROUND-UP:  In Mississippi 8 volleyball action Sept. 5, Cambridge-Isanti knocked off host St. Francis in four games: 25-18, 24-26, 29-27, 25-20. The Saints were the Section 7AAA runners-up last season.

Claire Sheehan led at the net with 23 kills and 2 blocks. Korbyn Felde added 12 kills and 27 digs, and Sydney Larkin totaled an impressive 43 assists and 23 digs on the night. Abby Glotzbach (14 digs, 8 kills), Taylor Glotzbach (5 kills) and Chloey Sheehan (5 kills) aided in the victory.

• On Sept. 10, the Bluejackets fell to Buffalo in another M-8 match 25-11, 25-11, 25-27. C-I hosts M-8 power St. Michael-Albertvile Sept. 12.

Bomber V-ball  2nd at PC Invite

Braham volleyball went 3-1 to finish as runners-up in the Sept. 7 annual Pine City Invite. The Bombers opened with a 25-11, 25-15 win over Hinckley-Finlayson, a 26-24, 25-16 win over Zimmerman, and a 26-24, 25-18 battle with Unity in pool play. Kayla Nickles totaled 28 kills in those three matches, and Carley Lynch set for 51 assists.In the finals, Webster, WI got past the Bombers 26-24, 24-26, 17-15.

• Braham followed that with a 25-11, 25-6, 25-10 thumping of Ogilvie in Sept. 10 Great River play. Kaylie Paitl delivered 8 kills and 2 aces against the Lions, and Nickles struck 12 aces at the service line. Lynch also dropped in 4 aces on the Lions.

CCS Volleyball sweeps  RAHS

Cambridge Christian volleyball broke out to a 2-0 start in Christian Athletic League matches, beginning with a 25-18, 25-11, 25-19 win against close rival Rochester Area Home Schools Sept. 5.

Karly Wiek and Kim Walburg led the Warriors with 14 points off their serves, and Walburg finished with 14 assists. Kristin Bergman, Kelly Pedersen and Wiek each ripped  kills.

On Sept. 9, the Warriors swept Faith Foreston 25-14, 25-19, 25-13 as Pedersen led with 8 kills and 14 service points.

C-I Tennis beats Bison, Saints

Cambridge-Isanti defeated 2012 M-8 co-champ Buffalo 5-2 in a big conference match Sept. 5. Sweeping at doubles for the Bluejackets were Ellie Osborne & Lizzie Holm (6-2, 6-4), Jade Lamb & Emily Baker (6-0, 6-0)  and Abby Schoeneck & Erika Schmieg (6-4, 6-4). Adding wins at singles were Nikki Hallstrom (7-6, 6-2) and Karley Kirkhoff (6-4, 7-5).

The Bluejackets beat St. Francis 7-0 on Sept. 9 and swept Big Lake 7-0 Sept. 10. Not giving up a game against the Saints were Jade Newman, Kate Hanson and Hallstrom in singles action.
