Cambridge-Isanti handled visiting Duluth Denfeld 34-0 in the Aug. 29 season-opener at George Larson Field. The evening began with tributes to former C-I coach Gary Christopherson and “super Bluejacket fan” Phil Becklin, both who passed away recently.

Max Knowlton scored on a 1 yard run and a 20-yard reception from John Solberg for a 14-0 Bluejacket lead in the first half. Hunter Vavra added second half touchdown runs of 20 and 2 yards, along with covering the ball after a blocked punt for another score. Vavra led all rushers with 80 yards on 10 carries, and the Bluejacket defense limited Denfeld to 69 total yards.
