Young Life thanks community for support

Dear Editor:

As fair-goers passed by the Orange Thing and Dunk Tank Young Life stands at the Isanti County Fair this year, they may have been summoned by the smell of delectable Donut Chips and the voice of one of our many “barkers,” calling them to “help us send kids to camp,” by dunking one of our community volunteers in our Dunk Tank.

Hundreds of kids and adults gathered to throw softballs at a target to send local politicians, business owners, church leaders, high school teams, ambassadors, and school officials plunging into a big tank of water.  Sounds like fun, right?  Thank you for stopping by during the fair to enjoy an Orange Thing, Donut Chips or Pickle on a Stick and also for dunking our “Dunkees.” You helped us raise just over $7,000 to send Young Life and Wyldlife kids to camp. Young Life would also like to thank the close to 100 volunteers who came for set-up, tear-down and everything in between.

This year we had some significant fair sponsors who covered our expenses so that all of the money raised at the fair went directly toward our Campership Fund. Thank you to these generous sponsors:  Wal-Mart; Cambridge Rotary Club; A&W Automotive; Satelite Experts; K&J Custom Lumber Products;  Concept Design & Masonry Inc.; Minnco Credit Union; Peoples Bank and East Central Sanitation.

On the last day of the Fair this year our High School Young Life group left by coach bus to Timber Wolf Camp in Lake City, Mich. where they since reported having “the best week of their lives.” Aug. 9 our Middle School Wyldlife group traveled by van to Castaway Camp in Detroit Lakes, Minn. and had an amazing time also. These trips were made possible in part by some local sponsors in the automotive industry generously pooled their resources to pay for all of the Young Life and Wyldlife kid’s transportation expenses.  East Central MN Young Life and all of our campers and parents would like to sincerely thank:  John Hirsch’s Cambridge Motors; Scotty and Sons Automotive; Affordable Auto; 1st Avenue Auto; Cambridge Collision; Napa Auto Parts; Super America; Larson’s AutoBody; Woody’s Auto; Dr. Monte’s Auto; Wayne, WJM Auto; Walker Auto Sales; and Leaf’s Towing.

As Young Life considers all of the community support for our mission of introducing kids to Christ and helping them grow in their faith, all we can say is, “thank you.” Our cup overflows.

We are gearing up to start our new year this September and we are always looking for volunteer leaders, helpers, prayer partners, committee members and of course new kids. For more information about East Central MN Young Life and Wyldlife, call our local office at 763-689-3823.
