Donald Edgar Wilson

ob_WilsonDonald Edgar Wilson, 88, of Ogilvie, Minn., died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at his home after a lengthy fight with Parkinson’s disease, Cardiac arrhythmias and Cancer.  He was lovingly cared for by his wife, assisted by St. Croix Hospice personnel.

Don was born Nov. 19, 1924 at home in Cambridge, Minn. to parents Edward and Myrtle (Paulson) Wilson. He was baptized at First Baptist Church in Cambridge and gave his life to Christ as a child. In later years he was a long time member of Ogilvie United Methodist Church.

When Don was only 17 years old, he took over and ran Wilson Milk Delivery Service in Cambridge after his father died. Don graduated from Cambridge High School and then attended Dunwoody Institute to become an Electrician He worked in civil service in Hawaii during WWII but returned to Cambridge and ran an appliance store and electrical service for 7 years before he became employed at Cambridge State Hospital until retirement 30 years later.

Don married Grace Otto May 10, 1947 at Isanti Baptist Church.  They were married for 34 years. He then married Rebekah Hanson June 26, 1982 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Mora. They have been married for the last 31 years.

Don loved music. He sang his 1st solo at the age of 7 at the First Baptist Church in Cambridge, and accompanied himself on his mother’s guitar which she had taught him to play. He sang in the church choir, the Apollo Choir in Minneapolis, and the Cambridge High School Choir.  In his youth he joined the Boy Scouts and eventually became an Eagle Scout. Some of his hobbies included fishing, carpentry, camping, hunting and planting trees. He lived his life for Christ and others. Whenever he found out anyone had a need or a problem, he immediately began to try to fix it and many times, succeeded. He loved to tell jokes and knew at least one for every occasion. He loved to play harmless practical jokes on friends. He kept in touch with a huge extended family and helped organize family reunions.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dwight; and many other beloved relatives.

He is survived by his wife, Rebekah; sisters–in–law, Eloise Wilson and Nancy Hanson; brothers–in–law, Jonathan and Timothy Hanson; 4 nephews; 3 nieces; 3 step sons, Jonathan (Beth) Stidham, Ward (Lisa) Stidham, Mark Stidham; 4 step grandchildren Nathan, Lake, Levi, and Samantha Stidham; and many loving relatives, friends and neighbors.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Ogilvie United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Pesola and Rev. Leland Paulson officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Music will be provided by Pat and Bryan Fredrick. Inurnment is in Cambridge Union Cemetery.  Memorial preferred to the Ogilvie United Methodist Church building Maintenance fund, Gideon International, or the Salvation Army. Arrangements were handled by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora.
