Redbirds fall to Fusion, Brewers

In a battle for first place in the Metro Minny League, visiting Blaine slipped past Isanti 7-6 in 10 innings to open up space in the standings July 17. Tyler Schaff and Wyatt Soderquist both had two hits for the Redbirds, and Isanti pitchers Adam West, Matt Duong and Brian Schultz combined for 10 strikeouts.

Isanti regrouped with a 10-2 win over visiting East Bethel July 19. Dallas Nelson, Jake Johnson and Brent Burman shared pitching duties, with Johnson getting the win. Nick Johnson stroked three hits and two RBI.

On Sunday, the Forest Lake Brewers topped the Redbirds 7-4. Jake Maros led with three hits, and Soderquist added two hits. Schaff nailed a two-run homer in the fifth.

Next up: at Champlin July 26 (7:30 p.m.); at St. Michael July 27 (7:30 p.m.). Section 8B playoffs then begin Aug. 2.
