Saturday, Aug. 24, is the “Big Day” of the 5th Venjan Reunion in Minnesota 2013 (5VR M13) at Fish Lake Resort Ballroom, south of Mora.
There will be 49 visitors from Venjan Sweden visiting the “Maple Ridge” area of Isanti County to meet their “cousins”—the descendants of the Swedish immigrants that settled primarily in Isanti and Kanabec Counties. Many others are coming from all over the United States and Canada for this full day of sharing stories and gathering resources for searching family information.
A large area will be provided for displaying immigration records, cemetery records, farm/plat maps from early times, and family trees. “Fika” will be served beginning at 10 a.m. and a full meal served buffet style mid-day.
The day will be filled with a program that includes musical entertainment, announcements, introductions to the Swedish guests, and speakers. There will be items for sale, including family trees, souvenirs, Venjan Choir CDs. Also, a light meal will be presented for self-service early evening.
The Saturday event requires pre-registration and pre-payment ($40 per person) by July 20, as they anticipate the venue will reach its capacity.
