The Cambridge-Isanti squads hit I-35 twice last week for the two-day Section 7AA Track & Field championships, with the boys finishing in 8th place and the girls in 14th. Forest Lake swept the team titles this spring.

Sophomore Cody Hemmelgarn was the lone C-I athlete to advance to State when he cleared 11-10 to place 2nd in the pole vault. Hemmelgarn will compete this Friday morning when the Class AA Championships are hosted on the Hamline University facilities.

Throwers Clinton Treichel and Darren DeBaere reached the shot put finals on Wednesday at the University of Minnesota-Duluth where Treichel placed 5th (46-03) and DeBaere was 6th (46-02). Treichel added a 4th in the discus (137-03) on Saturday. Also placing 4th was the 4×200 relay of Dan Kropidlowski, John Solberg, Travis Holt & Justin Rud (1:32.2), with Kropidlowski taking 5th in the 400 on Saturday (51.7).

More top-10 placings for the C-I boys: Bryant Nelson 5th in the pole vault (11-06); Nate Henderson 10th in the shot (42-03); Rud 8th in the long jump (18-10); Ryan Coop 9th in the high jump (5-06); Justin Gordon 10th in the 110 hurdles (16.4); 4×400 7th (3:37); and 4×800 8th (8:39).

• Senior Kylie Baas in the high jump (4-10) and freshman Anna Nelson in the pole vault (personal-best 10-03) placed 4th to lead the Bluejacket girls at UMD. Senior Paige Muehlhauser was 5th in the 400 (1:01.3), and Lily Porta was 7th in the triple jump (personal-best 34-02).

More top-10s for the Jacket girls: Michaela Pasch 8th in the pole vault (9-01); the 4×800 6th (10:12); 4×200 10th (1:53) and the 4×400 10th (4:21).

“We will be losing Kylie Baas and Paige Muehlhauser this season who have been significant point-earners for our team; they will be deeply missed as both athletes and teammates. Kylie won every meet in the regular season and was the conference champ– tough shoes to fill. Paige led the 4×800, 4×400 and almost broke her own school record in the open 400,” noted C-I girls coach Linda Droubie. “We do, however, have several talented athletes returning again next season, among them multi-event competitors Lily Porta,  Jordyn and Carlynn Galeazzi, and throwers Madeline and Allison Krueger.”
