Weather messing with tennis playoffs

Rain on Monday and Tuesday pushed forward the opening rounds of the 7AA South Subsection Team tourney. Cambridge-Isanti was seeded 5th and will travel to No. 4 Andover (2-11) on May 22, with the winner next facing top-seed Elk River (20-1).

Chisago Lakes (11-4) and Forest Lake (3-12) are the Nos. 2 and 3 seeds in the other half of the brackets. Duluth East (12-5) and Grand Rapids (9-3) are the top North seeds.

On May 23 in St. Francis, the 7AA Individuals tourney begins at 9 a.m. Representing the Bluejackets in Singles are No. 7 seed Destin Modina and No. 11 Rafael Hernando.

• The Bluejackets wrapped up the Mississippi 8 season with a 5-2 loss at Monticello May 15. Thomas Phillips at No. 3 Singles (6-1, 6-0) and Jay Gislason at No. 4 (6-1, 6-4) won their matches for C-I.

“They used the exact same line-up against us both times.  At the beginning of the season we lost to them 1-6.  This time we lost a really tight 2-5 match,” noted C-I Coach Thea Lowman. “As a team, we took 20 more games off them this time around.”

On Thursday, Forest Lake took a 7-0 match off the Jackets.
