Softball playoffs get rolling– sort of

After being rained out Monday and Tuesday, Braham will finally begin the 5A East Subsection Softball tourney vs. Ogilvie on Wednesday, May 22 in a No. 4 vs. 5 seed game at Rush City.

The winner will then take on No. 1 seed Rush City who opened with a 16-2 win over Cromwell. The Tigers (12-3) were the Great River Conference champions this spring.

Section 5A Subsections continue May 23 at Mora and Minnewaska.

The Bombers were clipped 6-5 by Pine City May 16 and lost 23-5 to Isle May 17.

Great River Softball

FINAL: Rush City 11-2, 12-3, Pine City 9-2, 10-4; Isle 8-2, 10-3; Ogilvie 5-6, 5-6; Braham 4-7, 4-9; Hinckley-Fin. 3-9, 3-10; Aitkin 3-6, 4-7; East Central 1-10, 3-11.

Bluejackets sweep Tigers

Cambridge-Isanti (6-9) was seeded 8th for the Section 7AAA tournament. The Bluejackets will host No. 9 Blaine (4-14) on Wednesday, May 22 (4:30 p.m.).

The victor will then face top-seed and six-time defending section champ Forest Lake (18-2) on Saturday, May 25 at Duluth’s Wheeler Park (10 a.m.). Games continue at Wheeler Park until it’s whittled down to four teams for the May 29-30 section tourney at Chisago Lakes.

The Bluejackets closed the regular season witha a 14-2 and 15-0 sweep of host Princeton May 17. Kendall Sandberg and Amanda Hanson both belted inside-the-park homers, with Sandberg finishing with 3 hits. Kate Hanson struck out 9 Tigers in her five innings.

In Game 2, Sydney Larkin, Jessica Golden and Sandberg rapped inside-the-parkers to support Golden’s 2-hit, 7 K shutout. Abbly Glotzbach and Erica Epsen both had 3 hits in the nightcap.
