SOFTBALL/BASEBALL UPDATES– Snapping a tough streak, Cambridge-Isanti fastpitch worked for a double-header sweep over visiting Monticello May 14, winning 8-2 and 10-2.

Senior Amanda Hanson got it started with a two-run homer, then senior Kendall Sandberg parked a two-run shot in the third. Sandberg added a run-scoring triple, and Kate Hanson scattered 6 hits with 6 strikeouts. In Game 2, Jessica Golden and Erica Epsen broke open a close game with doubles in the fifth. Sophomore Abby Glotzbach blasted a hgh homer to center in the sixth to back the pitching performance of Golden (5 hits, 4 K). Hannah Thiry, Sydney Larkin, Epsen, Sandberg and Glotzbach all had 2 C-I hits.

• At Big Lake May 9, the Bluejackets were swept by Big Lake 8-5 and 3-2. Golden’s two-run homer had Game 1 tied before the Hornets countered.

Friday against Mora, A. Hanson and Sandberg jacked back-to-back homers in the sixth, but the Mustangs scored an unearned run in the seventh to win 4-3.

On May 13, C-I led 2-0 when Epsen and A. Hanson scratched out runs, but St. Francis rallied for a 6-5 victory.

Mississippi 8  Softball

Buffalo 7-3, 8-6; St. Michael-Alb 7-3, 8-6; Big Lake 5-4, 11-7; Rogers 6-4, 9-6; Cambridge-Isanti 4-6, 4-7; Monticello 0-9, 1-14.

Bomber Softball beats Dragons

Last week, Braham notched a 9-8 win over Pine City, fueled by 2 RBI from Stormy Husnick (3-for-4) and Maddie Altendorf. Angie Bendickson got the win, scattering 4 hits and posting 3 strikeouts.

Lizzie Altendorf and M. Altendorf both had 2 hits in a 9-4 loss to Legacy Christian May 10. Braham also split with East Central on May 14, winning 10-5 before falling to the Eagles 9-7.

The Section 5A playoffs begin Monday, May 20.

Great River Softball

Rush City 11-1, 11-2, Pine City 7-2, 7-3; Isle 4-2, 6-3; Braham 4-5, 5-5; Ogilvie 4-6, 4-6; Hinckley-Fin. 3-8, 3-9; Aitkin 2-4, 2-5; East Central 1-8, 3-9.

Warrior Baseball adds win

Cambridge Christian improved to 6-1 this season by downing Isle 6-3 May 10. Anthony Leceardone threw six strong innings, with Alex Moses getting the save.

On May 9, the Warriors defeated Minnesota Transitions 13-0. Moses and Matt Reinke had 3 hits each, with Grant Taylor (4 RBI), A. Lecceardone (2 RBI) and Alex Lecceardone getting 2 hits each.

C-I Baseball battles Huskies

Cambridge-Isanti broke out the bats in a 14-11 loss to Andover May 10. Kevin Johnson homered amid his 3 hits, and Dustin Davis added 3 hits, including a double. Adding 2 hits each were Mitch Renstrom, Kyle Gageby and Tristen Zimprich.

On May 9, Big Lake swept the Bluejackets 8-2 and 4-1.

Braham Baseball sweeps EC

The Bombers broke loose with a sweep over East Central May 14, winning 14-3 and 6-4. Braham also earned a GRC win by knocking off Ogilvie 7-6 May 10.
