Kenneth James Boorsma

K Boorsma (1)Kenneth James Boorsma, 53, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 19, 2013. This took place during a storm that coated beautiful downtown Stanchfield with several inches of snow. And who said God doesn’t have a sense of humor?!

Ken was born on May 6, 1959 to Joseph and Jeanette Boorsma in Randolph, Wis. He grew up in Randolph and attended elementary school at Randolph Christian School. He received his high school diploma in Tucson, Ariz.

Ken worked as night manager at Festival Foods in Forest Lake, Minn., was employed by ECM Publishing in Forest Lake and Princeton, Minn., and worked at the Casey’s Store in Cambridge, Minn. until January of 2007. Ken enjoyed playing and listening to music, and working crossword puzzles until an auto accident he and Lynn had while escaping cabin fever caused injuries that prevented him from these activities. Ken loved spending time with his family.

Ken fell in love with Lynn Picha and they were married Aug. 2, 1997. Soon after their marriage they purchased their home in Stanchfield, Minn.

Ken accepted Christ as his Savior, and was baptized Jan. 8, 2006. He joined the Stanchfield Baptist Church where he remained an active member. The last 12 years have been challenging because of many health problems related to the car accident injuries, respiratory illness, and confinement to a wheelchair due to a spinal injury. He was hospitalized many times, and resided at GracePointe Crossing in Cambridge, Minn. in recent years.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, mother and father-in-law Ona and Virgil Picha, step daughter Amy Jo Schlussler, and niece Ashley Etheredge. He is survived by wife Lynn of Stanchfield; step children Travis (Anna) John, Jennifer and Madison Schlussler; brothers Jerry (Cindy) of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Don (Mary) of Forest Lake, Minn., sisters Lavina (Case) Mooibroek of Florida, Jan (Bill) Guikema of Grand Rapids, Mich., Phyllis (Herman) Nickels of South Haven, Mich., Carolyne (Roy) Etheredge of Sapphire, NSW Australia; sister-in-law Shelly (Ken) Jorgenson, brother-in-law Vince Picha; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, the entire Stanchfield Baptist Church family, many friends and neighbors.
