Owners Kevin and Janelle Troupe, of Ogilvie, opened their family-friendly establishment on March 16 with a full yet working menu — with choices especially for kids — comprised of flat bread pizza varieties, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wraps and more. They also welcomed a wedding party of 200 people on their first day, followed by a St. Patrick’s Day wedding event with about 50 people on day two.

Still, much of the same remains, from the staff on hand to live bands, DJ with karaoke and senior dances to the military veterans who can still enjoy their activities, meetings, meat raffles and other events through a rental agreement with the new owners.

In their search for a new business endeavor, the Troupes said they were originally looking for a place to house Kevin’s sign business. “We weren’t planning on being bar owners when we started,” he said.

Yet they liked what they saw and what the establishment could become with some fresh new ideas in mind. Troupe said they plan to build a rooftop patio garden atop the smaller building across the alley. “We’re also working with the city on an ordinance for sidewalk cafe-style seating,” he noted.

On the food front, broasted chicken, ribs or fish dinners are offered on Friday and Saturday nights. There are lunch and dinner special every day. The Troupes anticipate hiring a new cook to help construct a daily special menu, so customers know the dish and price will stay the same on its corresponding day.

Outside and in, customers will notice the American Jane logo, which reflects Janelle’s name and the kind of American nostalgia that the Troupes are trying to incorporate around the business. Aside from sprucing up the ambiance, they’re trying to add more fun things, such as dart tournaments, Texas Hold-em, improved happy hour, drink and pizza deals and plenty of meat raffles and bingo throughout the week.

“We’re not really our own boss,” Troupe said. “We listen to what the people want.” in_Legion2
