Now in its ninth season, the Summer Youth Theatre offers a variety of theatrical experiences for students from kindergarten through high school.
The Little League Players is Play Inc’s program for K-4 students. This Play Inc has split the program into two different opportunities. For K-1 students we offer a one week theatre basics class. The program runs from June 17-21. For students who have completed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade, the program will run for two weeks Monday through Friday, June 17-28. A the end of the two weeks this group will present the musical Welcome to the Jungle which is a retelling of the Aesop fable the Lion and the Mouse.
The Junior Theatre Troupe (students who’ve completed 5th-8th grade) will present the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, Jr. Set in 1920s New York, this show is sure to delight both the performers and Audience. Rehearsals begin June 17 and performances are July 19, 20, 21
The Yaebo Players will present the satirical musical Urinetown. Don’t let the title scare you away — unless you don’t want to see one of the funniest musicals to play Broadway in the last 30 years. The Yaebo Players program is for anybody who is in high school. Auditions are on June 10 with performances on July 26, 27, 28.
Play Inc also has a number of scholarships available for these programs for anybody who has a desire to participate, but cannot currently afford the program. Applications and more information about our scholarship program is available on our website. Deadline for scholarship applications is May 3.
The Summer Youth Theatre is made possible through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. All this information and more can be found at www.playinconline.org.
