The Cambridge-Isanti track & field teams both placed 2nd to the host Magic at the four-team Monticello Indoor meet held April 2. Rogers and Sauk Rapids-Rice also competed.
The Bluejacket boys got out of the blocks with several 1st places inside the Monticello fieldhouse. Posting wins were: Andrew Fosse in the 800 (2:17.4), Patrick Jones in the pole vault (12-0), Clinton Treichel in the shot put (44-6.5), the 4×400 relay of John Solberg, Matt Kuehn, Micah Malamisuro & Travis Holt (1:43.2) and the 4×800 relay of Reegan Lane, Colton Banks, Darren Codner & Fosse (9:06.6).
Placing 2nd for the C-I boys were: Darren DeBaere in the shot (42-10), Hunter Vavra in the triple jump (38-8.5) and the 4×200 relay of Sam Thomas, Kuehn, Solberg & Holt (1:43.2).
Adding points for C-I were Justin Gordon in the 55m hurdles (5th, 8.87), Zeb Callahan in the 200 (4th, 26.3), Benjamin Nelson in the 400 (4th, 59.6) and pole vault (10-06), Max Niebel in the 400 (5th, 60.9) and high jump (4th, 5-04), Banks in the 800 (2:18), Lane in the 1600 (5:09), Chase Hicks in the high jump (3rd, 5-06) and long jump (18-09), Cody Hemmelgarn in the pole vault (11-0), Vavra in the long jump (18-0), and Luke Rosburg in the triple jump (36-05).
“Overall, I was really encouraged by our performances. It should be a fun year,” commented C-I Coach Kent Viesselman. “It will be interesting to see how we do once we get outside. We have a lot of kids with potential but until we get them outside it’s kind of tough to determine how good they can be.”
• For the C-I girls, Kylie Baas cleared 5-0 to win the high jump. Also placing 1st for the Bluejackets were Anna Nelson in the pole vault (8-06) and the 4×400 relay of Baas, Lily Porta, Abby Schlenker and Paige Muehlhauser (4:33.5).
Placing 2nd for the C-I girls were Muehlhauser in the 400 (1:05.3), Victoria Nelson in the 55 hurdles (10.4), Britta Rud in the high jump (4-08), Laura Meier in the pole vault (8-0), Jordyn Galeazzi in the triple jump (30-02), the 4×800 relay of Bree Erickson, Maddie Ouellette, Taylor Ouellette & Muehlhauser (11:02), and the 4×200 relay of Melyssa Varsoke, Nelson, Schlenker and Porta (2:02).
Also placing for the Jacket girls were Michaela Pasch in the pole vault (3rd, 8-0), Nelson in the triple jump (3rd, 29-11.5), and Elle Larkin in the 800 (5th, 2:48).
“What a great first meet for the girls. We competed well in many events, and, again, were very strong in our field events,” noted C-I Coach Linda Droubie.
