Dean William Hiljus was born Aug. 16, 1935 in Grandy, Minn. to Roy and Fern (Peterson) Hiljus. He was raised in the Isanti area. Dean worked at Joslyn Pole Yards and then at Bell Pole Yards for over 40 years between them. He has made his home in Mora for the last 20 years. Dean loved the outdoors and especially fishing and hunting.
Dean is survived by three sons; Kevin (Sandra) Hiljus of Cambridge, Dan (Linda) Hiljus of Pensacola, Fla., and Craig (Elise) Hiljus of Lindstrom; one sister, Yvonne Lambrecht of Sartell; three brothers, Ray (Bonnie) Hiljus of Laughlin, Nev., Roger (Mary Joan) Hiljus of Cambridge, and Gerald Hiljus of Minneapolis; many grandchildren; four step-children, Marie (Les) Stokes of Circle Pines, Brenda (Scott) Kaliszewski of Princeton, Debra Stringfellow of Anoka, and Daniel (Rowena) Schaaf of Milaca, and their families; and by many other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; sister, Mary Ann; and three brothers, Duane, Donald and Richard.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 24, at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Rev. Howard Skulstad officiating.
