Isanti-native Tony Nelson defends Big 10 Wrestling title

Nelson 1Isanti native and former Bluejacket wrestler Tony Nelson won his second straight Big 10 individual championship at 285 lbs. last weekend in Champaign, Ill. Nelson opened with a 4-0 win in the quarters (below), then he held off Telford of Iowa 1-0 in the semifinals. Tony used a takedown and riding time to defeat No. 2 seed McMullen of Northwestern 4-1 in the championship.

   Nelson and the Gophers placed 2nd in the Big 10 team standings to defending champ Penn State. They next will travel to Des Moines, Iowa for the March 21-23 NCAA championship tourney where Nelson will aim to defend his Div. I heavyweight title.
