Braham & C-I boys bounced from hoops playoffs

In Saturday’s Section 7AA quarterfinals at UMD, No. 2 South seed Esko shot well from the outside to defeat No. 3 Braham 80-70, ending the Bombers’ season with a 25-3 mark.

The Eskomos (24-4) reach the March 14 7AA semifinals at UMD where they face North No. 1 Virginia (22-6); the Blue Devils knocked out No. 4 Eveleth-Gilbert 58-51 in the quarters.  In the other half, semifinal contestants are South No. 1 Mora (23-5, 70-50 over Hinckley) vs. South No. 3 Deer River (20-8, 75-62 over International Falls). The 7AA finals will be the evening of March 16 at UMD.

Section 7AAAA: Forest Lake 83, Cambridge-Isanti 62

The No. 3 seed Rangers powered past the visiting No. 6 seed Bluejackets in the March 7 section quarterfinals. Kyle McDonald led C-I with 24 points.

Forest Lake (11-16) next plays No. 2 Duluth East (15-12) in the March 11 semifinals at North Branch. Top-seed St. Francis (17-9) goes against No. 4 Andover (8-19) in the early semifinals Monday night.  The 7AAAA finals will be March 15 back at North Branch.
