No. 6 seed Rush City hung around early at 13-10, but the No. 3 Braham boys basketball team burned off a 27-3 run which essentially buried the Tigers in a 96-49 victory in the Section 7AA playoff opener March 6. Braham knocked down seven three-pointers in the first half alone, shot by the likes of John Larson, Zach Dahlman, Shaun Hollenkamp and Chris Olson.

Braham finished the game hitting 12-of-28 from the arc (42.9%) and shot 62.9% from two-point range.

Braham next will face No. 2 seed Esko in the Saturday, March 9 quarterfinals at UMD (1 p.m.). The Eskomos, who Braham defeated in last year’s 7AA championship, defeated Aitkin 72-48 in  their opener.

More 7AA quarterfinal matchups at UMD on Saturday will be North No. 1 Virginia vs. No. 4 Eveleth-Gilbert (in Braham’s half of brackets); South No. 1 Mora vs. No. 4 Hinckley-Finlayson; and North No. 2 International Falls vs. No. 3 Deer River.

The 7AA semifinals are scheduled for Thursday, March 14 and the championship will be Saturday night, March 16- all at UMD.
