C-I girls open playoffs with win over Saints
Taking care of business in their final home game, the No. 3 seed Cambridge-Isanti girls handled No. 6 St. Francis 81-52 in the Feb. 28 Section 7AAAA quarterfinals.
The Bluejackets next face No. 2 Anoka March 6 at North Branch, a game postponed one night because of the snowstorm. The Tornadoes (18-9) dispatched Blaine 40-25 in their quarterfinal game.
The C-I/Anoka winner advances to the March 8 7AAAA championship (7 p.m.) against either top-seed Forest Lake (20-6) or No. 4 Andover (12-15). The Huskies knocked out defending section champ Duluth East 79-49 in the quarters. The 7AAAA champ will play in the seeded Class 4A State tourney which begins early March 13 at the Target Center.
Against the Saints, the Bluejackets opened up a close game with a 13-3 run late in the first half which created a 40-24 lead. Lily Porta paced the offense with 21 points and 8 rebounds, and Brynn Liljander delivered 19 points and 4 assists. Amanda Hanson came through with 14 points and 8 rebounds, with more scoring coming from Justine Larson (14), Sydney Larkin (4) and Paige Muehlhauser (3).
