C-I’s two Travises open with State Wrestling wins

Cambridge-Isanti’s Travis Holt and Travis Swanson began the 2013 State Individual Wrestling Tournament with victories in the opening round Friday, March 1 at the Xcel Center.
In the Class AAA brackets at 120, Swanson won his first-ever State match 6-0 over Alexandria’s Olhausen. Swanson (36-12) next will face Irondale’s Weinmann (35-6) in the Friday night quarterfinals back at the Xcel.
Holt began his pursuit of his third-straight State medal by cradling and sticking Tartan’s Wallisch at the 3:19 mark. Holt (45-1) gets a great challenge in the quarterfinals against Apple Valley’s Racer (27-1).
Three other Bluejackets dropped their opening matches. At 152AAA, senior Ty Torgerson (36-8) was majored by Apple Valley’s Hall 12-2. At 160AAA, junior Cody Skog (39-8) was decisioned by Apple Valley’s D. Woiwor 7-2. And at 195AAA, junior Kyle Chromy (31-14) was pinned by Roseville’s Trae Story at the 3:02 mark. Those three guys need their first-round foes to win in the Friday night quarterfinals in order to stay alive in the wrestlebacks later Friday night.
• Rush City-Braham wrestling’s lone State representative, sophomore Jacob Lynch (25-7), was pinned in this opening 220AA match by Waseca’s Claybaugh. He needs Claybaugh to defeat Litchfield’s Kaping in the quarters in order to stay alive in the wrestlebacks.
