The Cambridge-Isanti gymnasts closed the challenging 2013 season on a high note when they scored their highest total of 138.85 at the Class AA Team Finals hosted Feb. 22 at the U of M Sports Pavilion.

“We had a lot of adversity, but the girls never gave up throughout the whole year,” spoke C-I Coach Wendy Rooney at the “State Send-off” at CIHS that morning, and her words rang true to her girls’ attitude on the big stage a few hours later.

The Bluejackets finished in 8th place at Friday night’s gathering. Roseville rallied to defend its Class AA title by averaging nearly 9.6 points on its final event, the Bars, to just get past strong Northfield. It was one of the stranger State Team events in recent memory since both Raider squads and 3rd-place St. Cloud Tech had their share of spills and step-outs to keep it a tight meet at the top.

Kortan paced the team again on the Beam with her 9.225. Adding to the team total were senior Nicole Morgan (8.8), Schlenker (8.8), Haight (8.5) and Nelson (8.25).

The Bluejackets closed the night on the Floor where Nelson led with a 9.05. Kortan scored an 8.9, followed by Durant (8.55) Schlenker (8.5) and freshman Larriane Acre-Kendall (8.025).
