C-I Gymnasts 1st, Wrestlers 2nd at section championships

The Cambridge-Isanti gymnasts worked to defend their Section 7AA championship when they scored 136.9 points at the finals hosted at CIHS. Forest Lake was 2nd at 135.975, and St. Francis placed 3rd at 134.6.

Bluejacket Kaeli Kortan took 2nd in the All-Around to advance to State Individuals which included winning the 7AA Bars and Beam crowns. Teammate Tori Nelson also advanced to State Individuals by placing 3rd on the Vault and Beam.

The Class AA State Team meet will be Friday, Feb. 22 at the U of M Sports Pavilion (6 p.m.), with individuals following Saturday night at 6 p.m.

Bluejacket Wrestlers are runners-up to Knights in 7AAA

Cambridge-Isanti made top-ranked St. Michael-Albertville work for the Section 7AAA title, getting to within 26-16, before the Knights posted a 47-16 win in the championship Feb. 15 in Forest Lake. STMA, ranked No. 1 in Minnesota wrestling, advances to the Feb. 28-March 2 State Wrestling Tourney at the Xcel Center.

The 4th-ranked Bluejackets opened the one-day tourney by taking Forest Lake 49-23 in the quarterfinals, then downing Anoka 52-9 in the semis.  The Knights defeated Elk River 69-0 and Coon Rapids 65-3 in their first two rounds.
