Play Inc. Community Theatre will perform “Fiddler on the Roof” on Friday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 9, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., at the Richard G. Hardy Performing Arts Center at Cambridge-Isanti High School.

The story of “Fiddler on the Roof” is about Tevye, a poor dairyman, who lives in the little village of Anatevka and tries to instill in his five daughters the traditions of his tight-knit Jewish community in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia.

Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof” touches audiences around the world with its humor, warmth and honesty. Its universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy and sadness. The celebrated score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick features beloved songs such as “Sunrise, Sunset,” “If I Were A Rich Man,” and “Matchmaker,” to name a few.

The cast is the largest since Play Inc.’s inception and includes some well-known members of the community.

Gary Guptill, of North Branch, will be playing the lead role of Tevye; Golde, Tevye’s wife, will be played by Lisa Bonine; Ben Wuerflein, Cambridge-Isanti High School graduate, will be playing Motel; and Lazar Wolf will be played by Tim Truebenbach. The three eldest daughters will be played by Cambridge natives and Play Inc. veterans Maria Meuhlhauser, Erin Prins and Christa Nienow.
