Sheriff Monson voices opinion on gun control
Isanti County Sheriff Russ Monson
I have been asked many times from citizens all over Isanti County what my stand is in response to President Obama’s speech involving gun control and to Pine County Sheriff Robin Cole’s letter and comments about gun control. I feel it is my responsibility to present my view to the people that elected me as their sheriff.
I was elected to be sheriff by the citizens of Isanti County. Shortly after that I took the Oath of Office. The Oath of Office for sheriff says this, “I, Russell Monson, do solemnly swear or affirm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Minnesota, and that I will discharge faithfully the duties of the office of Sheriff in the County of Isanti, the State of Minnesota, to the best of my judgment and ability.”
The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States says, “A well regulated Militia, necessary to keep the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
I made a promise to the people of Isanti County to support the Constitution of the United States and that is exactly what I have done and what I will continue to do.
