Carol Ann (Leaf) Kurschner

C. Kurschner newspaper photoCarol Ann (Leaf) Kurschner, 73, of Forest Lake, formerly of St. Paul and Grandy, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2012 at the United Hospital in St. Paul.

Carol was born Aug. 13, 1939 to Leonard and Cora (Nelson) Leaf in Grandy, Minn. Her family lived in the Grandy area and she was baptized and confirmed at the Calvary Lutheran Church at Rush Point. Carol attended grade school in Grandy. She went to Cambridge High School and completed her senior year at Spring Lake Park High School.

In 1957, Carol moved back to Grandy. She met Larry Kurschner on Aug. 1, 1958 and the couple was married four months later on Dec. 20, 1958.

In 1962, Carol and Larry moved to St. Paul to operate a board and care facility for the elderly and Larry’s father. Later, they moved to another home in St. Paul. Over the years, the couple helped 21 MS and MR residents, took care of 52 foster children, and raised five children of their own.

In 1980, Carol attended Rasmussen Business School and earned a degree in Data Processing and Data Entry. She worked for St. Paul Structural Steel for 7 years. Then, Carol and Larry were bar owners and operators in Wisconsin for 2 years. The couple moved back to White Bear Lake, and Carol worked as a property manager for 13 years. Following an injury, Carol retired in 2001 and she and Larry moved to Forest Lake. After her retirement, Carol dearly missed working with people.

Carol loved her family very much and enjoyed the time they spent together. She enjoyed her birds, Buddy and Kitty, and watching all her animals. She loved life and enjoyed participating in church at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. The loves of her life were: Larry, Dale, Cooke, Rory, Tony, and Tami.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Dwayne Leaf; sister, Gloria (John) Bergstrom.

She is survived by husband, Larry; sons: Dale (Vickie), Keith (Denise), Rory (Sue), and Tony (Claudia); daughter, Tami (Eric) Schell; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandy (Don) Nelson, and Connie (Doug) Streed; sisters-in-law, Diane Kurschner and Judy (Able) Ruise; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Calvary Ev. Lutheran Church in Rush Point with Rev. Keith Kozlow and Rev. Ed Wheatly officiating. Music will be provided by Janice Johnson and Jon Ekstrom. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the spring at Calvary Lutheran Cemetery in Rush Point. Arrangements by Rock-Ingebrand Funeral Home in Braham.
