The Isanti Library Link Site will continue operating throughout 2013.
A partnership agreement between the city of Isanti, the East Central Regional Library Board and the Isanti Area Friends of the Library was approved to keep the Isanti Library Link Site open through 2013.
During the Isanti City Council meeting Tuesday, Dec. 18, East Central Regional Library Director Barbara Misselt was on hand to talk about how the Isanti Link Site has been going since it opened in the fall of 2009 in Isanti City Hall.
Services have more than doubled since the link site opened. The site offers a wide variety of circulation materials, issues library cards, offers preschool story time and, with Legacy funds, East Central Regional Library was able to bring musician Wendy Baldinger and her Wiggle Jiggle Jam to the Isanti Community Center in June for a special program.
Between January and November 2012, 6,528 items were checked out from the link site, and 1,853 patrons visited the site.
“That’s pretty good,” Misselt said. This is down 39 percent from 2011, when 10,741 items were circulated and 2,569 patrons visited, but Misselt said there was a decline in the entire library system.
“We had a little bit of a dip,” she said. “We peaked terrifically in 2008 and 2009 when the economy tanked, and I think we’re just leveling off now. We’re still much higher than we were previous to that.”
Each month in 2011, an average of 200 to 300 patrons visit the site, which is open once a week on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“It’s been good,” Council Member and Isanti Area Friends of the Library Sue Larson said. “We can’t be open for as many hours as would really be needed in Isanti, but we’re thankful for what we have.”
The Isanti Library Link Site, located in Isanti City Hall, is staffed by a librarian and open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
In other action, the council:
• Approved a 2 percent cost of living adjustment (COLA) increase to all non-union employees for budget year 2013, excluding City Administrator/City Clerk Don Lorsung. Union contracts have been negotiated with a 2 percent increase for 2013 wages.
• Approved a resolution for the sale of $2,160,000 general obligation refunding bonds.
• Authorized Economic Development Director Sean Sullivan to make changes to the Isanti Community Center website and to research and apply for grants that can address capital improvement projects recommended by the Community Center Task Force.
