Cambridge-Isanti placed a solid 5th at the monster 34-team Minnesota Christmas Tournament hosted in Rochester last weekend. The Bluejackets totaled 161 points with five place-winners across the 14 weights.
Mississippi 8 power St. Michael-Albertville won the invitational with 256.5 points, bettering defending champ Apple Valley’s 247.5. Class AA tough team Kasson-Mantorville was 3rd (245), with Simley 4th (177.5). The Jackets finished just ahead of North Dakota power West Fargo in the standings.
Senior Travis Holt led the way for Cambridge-Isanti by placing 2nd at 145 lbs. He worked through the brackets by racking up two falls and two majors to reach the finals where Simley’s Jake Short won with a first-period fall. Short was named the tourney’s “co-Outstanding Wrestler.”
At 120, junior Travis Swanson began the tourney 3-0 to reach the semifinals where he dropped an 8-6 decision. Swanson ended up taking 6th. Senior Ty Torgerson also placed 6th at 152, going 5-3 in the tourney with four pins.
Junior Dakota Johnson placed 7th for C-I with a 4-2 weekend at 195 which included two falls. Junior Cody Skog finished 8th at 160 by going 3-3.
Nate Nassif went 3-2 at 145. Winning two matches for the Bluejackets were Brady Kuntz (106), Monty Fredriksen (113) and Kyle Chromy (220).
RC-Braham 4th at Chisago Lakes
The Rush City-Braham wrestlers placed 4th at the Dec. 14 Chisago Lakes Invite won by Goodhue, with the host Wildcats taking 2nd.
Sophomore Jacob Lynch paced the Tigers by winning the 220 brackets. Lynch strung together three falls, including pinning Lien of Rogers in the finals.
Chase Grant placed 2nd at 195, getting one pin in the tourney. Tyler Sitz at 120 and Francis Loerzel at 132 both placed 3rd, with one fall each. Luke Rands was 4th at 182, and Casey DeSoto placed 5th at 126 with two falls.
