The Cambridge-Isanti-Mora-Pine City girls earned their second win of the season with a full-game effort while downing visiting Chisago Lakes 4-3 Dec. 13. The Wildcats were Class A state-entrants last season.

The Bluejackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Kristin Eustice got it started off a Jordan Ramey assist. Six minutes later, Katie Carlson worked for an unassisted goal, then Madison Oelkers found the net.

The Wildcats chipped away with a goal late in the first period and added the lone goal of the second stanza. The Bluejackets came back out in the third period with renewed energy, out-shooting the ‘Cats 14-6. Oelkers netted her second goal for a 4-2 edge before Chisago added one more goal. CIMPC hustled well to close out the victory, with the defense backing Jessi Benson’s 26 saves.

“We started the game fast and kept pressuring them throughout the game. It was great to see our team play with a lead and not let up at all,” noted CIMPC Coach Bob Nelson.

Princeton 3, CIMPC 2

The Tigers tipped the Bluejackets for the first time in 14 meetings in a good Mississippi 8 match-up at Princeton Dec. 18. The young Tigers are currently on a six-game win streak. CIMPC had an 11-0-3 streak going against their close rivals.

Suzi Voce’s goal had Princeton up 1-0 early, then Steph Cannon made a steal at the Tiger blue line and wristed a high shot to the upper right corner to knot the game late in the first period. Ramey’s goal at the 7:21 mark of the second period retied the score.

Voce’s power-play goal 54 seconds into the third period proved to be the game-winner. The Jackets were working hard for the equalizer when Ramey took a checking-from-behind major which slowed the momentum. Goalie Paige Anfinson held tough on the Princeton advantage, and Eustice applied short-handed pressure in the Tiger end with two good chances. The Bluejackets had one last power play with 3:45 to go, but the Tigers killed the chance well with four clears to preserve the victory.
