The Cambridge-Isanti boys swim & dive squad evened its dual meet record at 1-1 with an overwhelming 102-67 home win over section-partner Coon Rapids Dec. 18, sweeping the top two spots in seven of the first eight events.
Joe Lewis (2:05) and Peter Edblad (2:08) had the swiftest times in the 200 Freestyle, then Darren Codner (24.6), Chase Griffin (25.4) and George Grandgenett (26.8) finished 1st-3rd in the 50 Free. Parker Brown followed with a solid 210.9 to place 1st in Diving, with Micah Gertz scoring a 2nd-place 133.1.
Taking the top two spots in the 100 Butterfly were John Solberg (1:08) and Ryan Hunt (1:11). C-I’s score kept rising when Codner (54.6) and Lewis (56.0) swept the 100 Free, followed by Edblad (5:55), Alex Heinen (6:02) and Dylan Monroe (6:26) taking 1st-3rd in the 500 Free.
• Back on Dec. 11 in the season-opener, the Bluejackets were clipped by Duluth East 93-92 when the Greyhounds swept the top three times in the 100 Breaststroke and added a 1st place in the 400 Free to rally on C-I. Jacket highlights were Brown scoring a huge 242.7 off the board, Lewis and Edblad going 1st-2nd in the 200 Free, Solberg winning the 100 Backstroke, and Codner taking 1st in the 500 Free.
• Last Saturday, the Bluejackets placed 10th out of 14 teams at the Blaine Bengal Invite. Eastside power Stillwater rolled to the title with 443 points to get past defending Section 7AA champ Anoka’s 319.5 total.
Brown continued his strong diving start to the season by placing 2nd with 354.4 on 11 dives. Cody Hemmelgarn was 7th in Diving with 278.3 points. More top-15 individual results for C-I were: Codner– 11th in 50 Free (24.3) and 11th in 100 Free (54.6); Solberg– 11th in 100 Backstroke (1:03). The team’s best relay finish was the 9th-place 200 Free Relay where Codner, Patrick Jones, Griffin and Lewis combined to go 1:40.7.
