Sophomore defender Maria Carpenter scored her first varsity goal to make it 2-1 after two periods.
The Blizzard tied the game midway through the third period, but 90 seconds later Cannon netted the game-winner for the Jackets. Eighth grader Megan Thomas was solid in the nets for CIMPC, turning away 18-of-20 shots for her first varsity win.
• Senior co-captain Katie Rooney racked up 4 goals and 3 assists when visiting Buffalo won 10-0 in the Bluejackets’ first Mississippi 8 contest. The CIMPC girls played a fairly even first period with the Bison, with their best flurry coming midway when Jordan Ramey, Kylie Guimont and Ashley Niebur had shots on net over a short span. Shortly after, Rooney finished off a 1-on-0 breakaway for the game’s first goal.
Rooney stole the puck and assisted on Madi Jewel’s goal with a minute to go in the first period for a 2-0 lead, then the Bison rolled with six second-period goals to put the game away.
