Elaine was born Oct. 29, 1946 in Rush City, Minn. to parents Earl Vincent and Junette (Erickson) Person. She grew up in South Minneapolis and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1964. Elaine was united in marriage to Dennis Nilsen on June 27, 1964 at the Lake Nokomis Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. She worked a few odd jobs before she and Dennis adopted their first son, Ben, in 1971. The family continued to grow in 1976 when they adopted Dan and again in 1978 with the birth of Ron. The family moved to Blaine for 12 years, before finally settling in Stanchfield in 1980. In the late 1980s, Elaine began working as a store demo lady. She worked mostly at Cambridge County Market, Cub foods, and Walmart. As she experienced more problems with her arthritis, Elaine was forced to quit working.
In her younger years, Elaine loved to camp, hunt, fish, and take family vacations. She loved to tend to her flower gardens during the summer. Elaine adored her time spent as a nursery volunteer at the Cambridge Methodist Church. Elaine enjoyed keeping up to date with local news by reading the newspaper and listening to her scanner. She enjoyed doing her daily crossword puzzle and watching her favorite soap operas. Most of all, Elaine loved to spend time with her grandchildren. They seem to light up her days, and she was so proud of their many accomplishments. Elaine will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Noel Person.
She is survived by her husband Dennis, sons Ben (Laura) of Carleton, Dan (Rachel Maas) of Cambridge, and Ron (Amanda) of Braham; grandchildren Nathan, Nicole, and Lucy; sister Nancy (Carl) Larson of Coon Rapids; nephews Grant Larson, and Mikal Applewhite; sister-in-law Marilyn Applewhite of Tacoma, Wash.; brother-in-law Gerald Nilsen of Sun City, Ariz.; former daughter-in-law Marcee Nilsen; many other relatives and friends.
