The game began with a series of punt exchanges, then Bemidji put together a good drive which reached the C-I 12. But sacks by Bluejacket defenders Weylin Iglesias and Kyle Chromy ended that threat.

Iglesias picked up another sack on Bemidji’s next possession, but the C-I offense was stymied when Nick Hovila picked off a bomb attempt at midfield. The ‘Jacks went on to score when soph QB James Hendricks scrambled 13 yards for the touchdown.

C-I halfback Sam Thomas was lost to a knee injury on the ensuing kickoff. C-I got inside Bemijdi territory when Travis Holt hauled in a 36-yard catch, but that drive ended on downs when the Lumberjacks stopped a 4th-and-1 run.

Brady Schmidt helped clinch the win for Bemidji with a long run off a pitch and a 2-yard TD with 3:52 to play in the 7AAAAA semifinal game vs. the Jackets.

Bemidji made it 14-0 when they drove the 65 yards, helped by a 29-yard reception from Alex Fenson and scoring on a 10-yard Tanner Boes run.

The Jackets’ first possession of the second half ended on downs at the B 28, and C-I lost a fumble just into the fourth quarter. Bemidji iced the win when Brady Schmidt broke off a long run to the C-I 11 and later scored from two yards out with 3:50 to play.

Wrapped up C-I Coach Mike Hennen on the Jackets’ 6-3 season, “The team made great strides from a year ago.  There was nobody outside of our team that thought we would compete for a M-8 Conference championship, but there we were the final week of the season. The seniors were a huge part of the turnaround. Their determination, character and heart were evident all season long in the way they led the team.  I am excited to see if the underclassmen can bring it to the next level. And if the underclassmen learned anything from this group of seniors, I hope it was that great things can be done when nobody cares who gets the credit.”
