This pilot program matches business professionals interested in being “lunch buddy” with a student to meet at the school once a month over lunch. The program currently has 14 volunteer mentor/mentee matches and anticipates 10 more in the coming month.

The goal of the program is for the mentor to build a relationship of help and encouragement with the student to motivate them to succeed in school. Even though the time commitment is minimal, the outcome can be life transforming for both the mentor and the mentee.

Anyone with a heart for helping local youth thrive and an hour to spare once a month should consider applying to become a mentor. Sponsors, like the Grandy Lions, are also needed to help defray the cost of the program. Local restaurateurs can help by signing up to provide the meals for a month. Interested parties can contact Debra Lawrence at 320-248-1224.
