The University of Minnesota Law School’s Robina Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice has awarded one of two Visiting Fellowships to Anoka-Ramsey Community College faculty member and Isanti County Attorney Jeff Edblad for spring 2013.
The second fellowship was awarded to Minnesota Public Defender John Stuart for fall 2012.
Edblad, in his fifth term as Isanti County Attorney, is member of Anoka-Ramsey’s political science and sociology departments. He is also a member of the Minnesota County Attorneys Association Board of Directors and has chaired the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission since 2007.
He was recognized by the Minnesota County Attorneys Association with its 2009 Johnson Distinguished Service Award, and the Minnesota Bar Association’s Public Law Section with the 2008 Julius E. Gernes Prosecutor Award of Excellence.
As a visiting fellow, Edblad will focus on sentencing issues, and hopes to work directly with students interested in trial advocacy and criminal prosecution.
“It is a great honor to be selected as one of the first two visiting fellows, along with my friend John Stuart, by the University of Minnesota Law School’s Robina Institute of Justice,” Edblad said. “As someone who has devoted his career to the practice of law and teaching in the public sector, I look forward to the opportunity to work directly with students interested in public service legal careers, especially Minnesota’s next generation of prosecutors.”
The Minneapolis-based Robina Foundation was established by St. Paul native James H. Binger (’41) shortly before his death in 2004. Binger charged the foundation with supporting projects that have the potential to transform existing institutions, policies and practices.
The Robina Institute of Criminal Law and Criminal Justice aims to participate in the work of creating criminal justice systems fit for the 21st century and for the citizens of a contemporary democracy.
