Jackets 2nd at own Sholund Invite

The Cambridge-Isanti girls swim & dive team pulled off a busy stretch on the schedule  which has highlighted by a 2nd-place finish their own Sholund Invite hosted on Saturday.

The Bluejackets totaled 567 points  to place behind strong Elk River’s 712 accumulation. More teams competing were Andover (441.5), Princeton (347.5) and Ogilvie (61).

Elk senior Courtney Grunewald had a huge day by setting a CIHS pool record in the 100 Butterfly (59.53), and she was on two relays which also set pool records: the Medley (1:59.3) and the 400 Freestyle (3:44.81).

The C-I divers came through with big points for their team. Maria Leibel won with a 329.4 score, followed closely by 2nd-place Hannah Thiry (323.2), 4th-place Taylor Weeks (309.3) and 8th-place Michaela Pasch (223.0).

C-I’s foreign exchange student Alessia Zenatti enjoyed a good day in the pool with a 4th-place in the 100 Backstroke (1:06.7) and a 5th in the 100 Free (1:01.5). Two Jacket relays placed 3rd: the 200 Medley (2:02.5) and the 200 Free (1:51.6).

Big Lake 106, C-I 80

The Bluejackets finished the season 0-4 in Mississippi 8 meets when visiting Big Lake took an early lead, then pulled away late in the Oct. 4 meeting.

Katie Beauto worked for Cambridge-Isanti’s first win when she clipped her closest Hornet foe by 35/100s of a second in the 200 IM with a 2:30.2 finish. Beauto also added a 1st place in the 100 Backstroke (1:-6.7). Ashley Hiljus added points with a 3rd place in the 200 IM (2:33), then she later won the 100 Butterfly with a 1:04.8 swim.

Carly Dupre was 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke (1:15) and 3rd in the 50 Free (27.4). Maria Vavra added sprint depth points with a 3rd in the 100 Free (1:00) and a 4th in the 50 (27.8).

C-I 96, Chisago Lakes 88

The Bluejackets kept rolling with a victory over Chisago Lakes Oct. 8, raising their overall dual record to 4-5 on the season.

Dupre (1:14), Paige Thomas (1:17) and Laura Meier (1:20) swept the top three spots in the 100 Breaststroke. Aliina Knickerbocker (2:16) and Mackenzie Boysen (2:16) finished 1st & 2nd in the 200 Free. Beauto (1:07) and Anna Sunderman (1:09) also swept the top two spots in the 100 Backstroke against the Wildcats.

• The Thursday, Oct. 11 home meet against Milaca will also be the Bluejackets’ “Parents Night” and “Senior Recognition Night” at the CIHS pool.
