Jacket Soccer teams hit road for playoffs at Duluth East, Blaine
The Cambridge-Isanti soccer teams will need to be road warriors when they kick into the 2012 playoffs. The Bluejacket boys are seeded 6th and the girls are 7th when the Section 7AA tourney opens Thursday, Oct. 11.
The C-I boys (10-5) travel to No. 3 Duluth East (12-2-2) for the 5 p.m. quarterfinal battle. This is a rematch of last year’s quarters which the Greyhounds won 4-0 on their turf.
A Bluejacket victory would either send them to No. 2 Coon Rapids (9-4-3) or host No. 7 St. Francis (4-9-1) in Saturday’s semifinals. In the other half of the brackets, Blaine (12-3-1) gets the No. 1 seed bye in the quarters and will await the winner between No. 4 Andover (5-9-2) or No. 5 Forest Lake (5-9-2). The 7AA championship will be Tuesday, Oct. 16.
• The Bluejacket girls (6-8-1) face No. 2 Blaine (11-4-1) in the 7AA quarterfinals. The Bengals finished 4th in the solid Northwest Suburban Conference.
A victory would send Cambridge-Isanti to either No. 3 St. Francis (11-5) or No. 6 Forest Lake (5-10-1) for Saturday’s semifinal match. Andover (13-2-1) is the top seed in the other half of the brackets, getting a bye into the semis where they will see either No. 4 Duluth East (5-9-2) or No. 5 Coon Rapids (5-8-3). The 7AA finals will be Tuesday, Oct. 16.
The Bluejackets closed the regular season with a split of games last week. On Oct. 4, they beat host Rockford 2-0, then fell 3-2 to visiting Chisago Lakes on Saturday. Against the Wildcats, Melyssa Varsoke scored two first-half goals to keep the game tied, but Chisago Lakes knocked home a rebound with less than 8:00 to play for the win.
