Andover stops Jackets in 7AA tennis opener
The team portion of the Cambridge-Isanti girls tennis’ schedule came to a close Oct. 8 when No. 4 seed Andover clipped the Bluejackets 5-2 in the opening round of the 7AA South Subsection Team tourney. C-I finished with an 11-7 overall record this autumn.
In the second round on Oct. 9, Andover was defeated by top South seed Elk River 4-3 as the Elks advance to the Section 7AA Team tourney with No. 2 seed Forest Lake.
The Bluejackets next enter the 7AA South Singles & Doubles tourney at St. Francis Oct. 11. The top seeds for C-I are Amanda Hanson and Nikki Hallstrom at the No. 3 slot in Doubles; they take on Princeton’s Hall & Wheeler in the opening match on Thursday.
Joining those two in Double are No. 13 Kate Hanson and Jade Newman who open against No. 4 Vitali & Howard of Chisago Lakes.
Erika Schmieg enters the 7AA South Singles tourney as the No. 9 seed. She takes on No. 5 Hunt of St. Francis in the first match. C-I’s Danielle Page is seeded No. 11, and she opens against No. 6 Karavitch of Elk River.
Entrants winning their two matches on Thursday will qualify for the Section 7AA Singles & Doubles matches hosted Oct. 15-16 in Spring Lake Park.
