Andy Beckstrom always thought opening a restaurant was just a pipe dream.
But that dream became a reality when he opened up The Fieldhouse Sports Bar and Grill in Braham in September.
Beckstrom invites the public to the grand opening celebration the weekend of Oct. 20-21. Saturday there’ll be door prizes and entertainment, with a brunch buffet Sunday morning and drink and appetizer specials for the noon Vikings game.
“Having a sports bar or a restaurant was something I kind of always wanted to do,” he said. “It’s nice to have one of those things that you dreamed about for a long time and never really thought it was going to happen. But to actually be able to open it up, every once in a while, I kind of sit back and just think, ‘wow, this is really cool.’”
After graduating from high school, Beckstrom thought about going into culinary arts, but ended up studying radio and working in the radio industry for eight years. Working in Cambridge and living in Grasston, he drove past the empty space every weekday for six months before finally deciding to check it out.
“It was in pretty rough shape,” Beckstrom said. Before opening, he and his crew spent months renovating and remodeling. “It’s a completely different building, especially on the bar side.”
Located at 112 Central Drive West, Beckstrom opened The Fieldhouse about three years after Woody’s Saloon and Eatery closed in that spot.
He recruited his dad Kurt Beckstrom to be a cook at The Fieldhouse. With years of experience around food as a caterer, Andy said the food has received positive reviews.
The restaurant features a lunch buffet from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays, with the buffet menu changing. Tuesdays is a taco bar, for instance, while Thursdays is a pasta bar.
The lunch menu includes burger baskets, BBQ pulled pork, a fish sandwich, shrimp and chicken strips, while guests can enjoy pork chops, walleye, country style ribs and chicken for dinner.
The bar and restaurant are separated by a wall with sets of double doors. The bar side also has pool tables, dart boards and more.
Beckstrom said it’s great to be open.
“On the restaurant side, the goal is to make sure that people want to be able to go there for a good solid meal in a nice, relaxing, family atmosphere,” he said. “On the bar side, the goal is to make it a place that people want to go to watch a game or hang out in a fun, inviting, good time type of atmosphere. We want people to enjoy themselves when they come in.”
