Mary Tompkins

Mary Tompkins, 88, of Isanti passed away September 19, 2012 at Solbakken Assisted Living in Oxlip, Minn. Mary was surrounded by her family as she peacefully, and quietly passed on to the lap of our Lord, assisted by His Angels.

Mary Elizabeth Tompkins was born July 15, 1924 in Denver. She enlisted in the Navy and served in World War II from 1944 – 1947 and she became a nurse. During the years following the Navy she met and married Harold Tompkins on July 16, 1949. They made their home in Miami until 1958 when they moved to Spencer Brook Township, Isanti County, on Harold’s home place. They later moved to Goldenwood and 3 years ago she moved to Solbakken.  Her career as a nurse continued throughout her life and Mary retired from the Cambridge Medical Center. She enjoyed her retirement years by volunteering in various activities, but especially enjoyed her church and all the people she met.

Mary loved to travel. She was a volunteer at church. She went on mission trips. She had a servant’s heart which showed her compassion for others, love she gave to others and she always had a smile for those she would meet. People would say what a sweet person she was. Mary loved her Lord, her family, her church, and reaching out to help others.

Mary was preceded in death by her brother, John Logerot and her parents, Louis Logerot and Elizabeth Schmitt. She is survived by her husband, Harold; 3 sons, John (Barbara) Tompkins, Thomas Tompkins and Robert Tompkins; her beloved grandchildren, David (Gina) Tompkins, Jennifer (Jason) Yates, Andy (Penny) Tompkins, Angela Tompkins and Nicole Tompkins; great-grandchildren, Jordanna, Julia, Joshua, Jared and Kaitlyn; and by other relatives and many friends.

A special Thank-you to Solbakken – Isanti and all their wonderful staff who treated Mary with respect and love, and made her feel like the special person she was. They were there for us in a very stressful time, and we will never forget the smiles on Mom’s face in the last months and weeks, and finally, hours of Mom’s life journey.
