Homecoming routs for Bombers, Bluejackets

Both Braham and Cambridge-Isanti high schools finished off their 2012 Homecoming weeks in style when the football teams racked up big victories Friday night, Sept. 21.

The Bombers defeated Mesabi East 48-26 while amassing 403 yards of offense against the Giants. Shaun Hollenkamp and Casey Grell both scored two touchdowns for the Bombers (3-1), and Dylan Altendorf had a 70-yard TD reception to start the fourth quarter.

The Bluejackets took advantage of four Bison turnovers in the first half to roll to a 42-0 lead en route to their Homecoming win. Homecoming King Chance Laidly scored the team’s first three touchdowns, then Sam Thomas broke off scoring runs of 69 and 32 yards in the rout.

The Bluejackets owned a 399-306 total yards edge over the Bison to improve to 3-1 on the season (2-1 in Mississippi 8).

Defensive linemen Darren DeBaere (79) and Joe Miller did the old “hit ’em high and low” trick to stuff a Bison back in the rainy & windy second half of the Bluejackets’ Homecoming victory.
