Cambridge-Isanti volleyball improved to 2-1 against Section 7AAA opponents this season when they swept host Princeton Sept. 10: 25-14, 25-15, 25-15.
Setter Kylie Baas was locked in with her touches as she found multiple players for kills against the Tigers. Alexis Landherr played strongly both at the net and in the back row throughout.
“We have just a bunch of new things we were trying on offense, like the lefts were hitting deep against Princeton, and we were mixing in lots of flies,” said senior co-captain Landherr. “So I think we did a good job confusing Princeton with our plays.”
A huge new bright spot for the Jackets was the serving of 8th grader Claire Sheehan. She absolutely ripped three straight ace serves to build a 13-6 lead over the Tigers in Game 2 and added another ace to make it 24-13.
In Game 3, C-I withstood a rally which had Princeton ahead 8-7 when Landherr and Baas began tipping for points. Korbyn Felde smacked a couple strong kills, then Landherr knocked down a kill off another perfect Baas set for match-point.
• On Saturday, the Bluejackets went 3-1 to place 2nd at the Litchfield Invite. In pool play they defeated Dassel-Cokato (25-23, 19-25, 15-12), Sartell (25-16, 26-24) and Annandale (25-14, 25-21. They lost to the host Dragons in the championship 25-15, 25-11.
“It was just a nice workout at the tourney,” analyzed Landherr. “We all played together as a team. We got our serves in, our passes up. We played really good defense. We could hit the ball, and we came out playing the best we could.”
