Bluejacket Tennis tops Monti 4-3

Cambridge-Isanti evened its Mississippi 8 girls tennis record at 2-2 on the season when they tipped host Monticello 4-3 Sept. 11.

The Bluejackets swept the Doubles matches to highlight the victory. Posting wins were Nikki Hallstrom & Kate Hanson (6-1, 6-7, 6-3), Amanda Hanson & Ellie Osborne (5-7, 6-4, 7-5), and Danielle Page & Emily Baker (7-6, 6-2). Beth Hanson added the last needed team point with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 rally at 4th Singles.

“A very exciting win for our team against a talented Monticello team,” noted C-I Coach Lee Orvik. “We’ve had some near misses against the other conference powerhouses this past week, so this victory felt really good for our team. We went with a new lineup tonight, and the girls’  willingness to try something new paid off. The Magic Singles players are outstanding. Beth Hanson was able to battle back from a set down to win a key three-set match. Our new Doubles lineup did exactly what we had hoped– it gave us the depth to sweep those matches.”

In other M-8 action this past week, Buffalo tripped the Bluejackets 4-3 on Sept. 6. Page and Kate Hanson had dominating wins for C-I at 3rd and 4th Singles. Hallstrom & Jade Newman won at 1st Doubles 6-3, 7-6.

On Sept. 10, the Bluejackets fell to M-8 leader St. Michael-Albertville 5-2. Hallstrom & Newman (6-3, 7-6) and K. Hanson & Baker (6-1, 6-3) earned the C-I team points.
