Consider joining local PFLAG Chapter for September event

Dear Editor:

The summer is rapidly winding down and already students are back in school full time, and everyone else will be busy with fall activities. As September is upon us, now might be the right time for you to consider joining your local PFLAG Chapter.

Mora-East Central Minnesota PFLAG (parents, family, and friends of lesbians and gays) has been around for over four years offering support and conversation for parents with gay, lesbian, transgender children, for families dealing with the same, and for friends who know people in the GLBT community. The local chapter meets on the second Sunday of each month at the ARC Retreat Center located just West and a bit North of Grandy. The meetings are informal and begin at 4 p.m. and end at approximately 5:30 p.m. The chapter welcomes all persons dealing with GLBT issues, and is a safe and confidential place to share stories.

If you are a parent, family member, or friend of someone with sexuality issues or you just need a safe place to talk, please feel free to make Mora-East Central Minnesota PFLAG a must do for the changing season. You may call Phil or Barb at 320-272-0069 for more information.

At the November election, people in Minnesota will be voting on two constitutional ballot issues. The one that affects PFLAG the most is the proposed amendment concerning marriage status in Minnesota. If you are undecided as to how you should vote, or you want to learn more, please think of attending our local PFLAG Conference on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Isanti Community Center. The conference will feature a play sponsored by ReconcilingWorks with the title of “Valued Families” A panel discussion will follow the play. The conference is scheduled to run from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Treats will be served by the local PFLAG Chapter. Everyone is welcome to attend this conference.
