Bombers beat RC to open GRC Volleyball

Last season, Braham and Rush City were co-champions of Great River Conference Volleyball. This season, the Bombers fired the first salvo when they held on to defeat the host Tigers Sept. 4: 21-25, 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 15-10.

Coach Britne Engelking: “The girls played incredibly well, especially considering the amount of emotional distress they have endured over the last few days. Alyssa Thom really stepped up her level of play and helped lead this team the the ‘W.’  Carley Lynch, our 9th grade setter, gave 100% on every play all night and remained calm and positive which also helped us clinch the win.  Overall, it was a team effort, and each girl on the team should be praised for how she played.”

Forest Lake 3, C-I Volleyball 2

Cambridge-Isanti Volleyball’s 2012 season record was evened at 1-1 when they lost in a very tight five-gamer at Forest Lake Aug. 30: 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 19-25, 22-20.

Coach Vicki Courts: “Overall, it was a great match, and our girls played hard. We had 10 missed serves against the Rangers; that is the difference between a win and a loss in a couple of those games. The girls need to be able to hit their zones and get the ball over the net to put pressure on the other team. Forest Lake ran a ‘3’ middle offense, and at times we could not stop them from getting some really great kills.

“This team has a lot of potential. I look forward to this week when we play Monticello in the conference opener and then travel to Litchfield for a tournament on Saturday.”
