Mary was born Feb. 14, 1971 in Anoka, Minn. to parents Paul and Sharon (Thomas) Nyman. She grew up in Coon Rapids and attended Coon Rapids schools until the family moved to Stanchfield when Mary was 15 years old. She finished High School in Braham, graduating in 1989. Mary worked for a short time as a Veterinary technician in Bloomington. Through mutual friends, Mary met David Thom and the couple was united in marriage on Nov. 18, 1995 at the Braham Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braham. Just three months earlier, the couple was blessed with the birth of their daughter, Alyssa. Together the family made their home in Stanchfield. For a number of years, Mary worked as a receptionist for John Hirsch Motors in Cambridge. In 2003, Mary received her Para Professional certification and began working at the Braham Elementary School. She later transitioned to her current position as the Health Services Secretary.
Family was the most important part of Mary’s life. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She, Dave, and Alyssa enjoyed camping and taking family RV trips across the country. She was so proud of her daughter Alyssa. Mary was a troop leader when Alyssa was in girl scouts and was a huge supporter of the Braham Volleyball team, cheering at every game. Mary loved to deer hunt with her dad Paul and daughter Alyssa and was so delighted the year she got two deer. Mary enjoyed the time spent making hay during the summer; she could always stack her loads better than anyone else. Mary loved to tend to her flowers and vegetable gardens. Every year she would freeze and can veggies from her garden to enjoy all winter long. Mary had a wonderful spirit and a loving heart and she will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her grandparents Ray and Lottie Nyman, and Albert and Emma Thomas, and brother Michael Lans.
