Cambridge Softball lucky to have “Duke”

Dear Editor:

I have umpired slow pitch softball for several years in Cambridge and feel compelled to complement Duke Weisbrod on an outstanding job of directing the softball operation. I have umpired in multiple softball leagues at many different complexes over the years, and Cambridge softball is the best run program I have seen. Duke has the leagues very organized with high expectations in the areas of professionalism and sportsmanship.  It is easy to see the great respect the players and coaches have for Duke.

Even more impressive to me is the effort by Duke to make the Cambridge softball fields the best I have come across in my years of umpiring. The playing surface is in fabulous shape for the players each week. Duke arrives at the fields early and drags the fields making them true, safe and looking great. Duke is extremely committed to making and keeping the fields in the best possible condition, which makes for a higher caliber and safer level of play.

It would be easy to take for granted the contributions to Cambridge softball that Duke makes. Some people may think that softball fields are in the same condition everywhere. That assumption would be far from the truth. Cambridge is very fortunate to have someone like Duke Weisbrod to run the softball program. Duke’s commitment to making Cambridge softball the best it can be is rare and exceptional.
