The Isanti Redbirds defeated the Champlin LoGators 8 to 1 in their first round of Sectional playoffs on Saturday, Aug. 4.
Joe Ramberg pitched the first 7 innings giving only one unearned run and striking out seven Champlin hitters. Adam West and Dallas Nelson pitched the last two innings.
Offensively, the ‘Birds were lead by Jake Maros, Packy Lind and Tyler Schaff.
Packy went 2 for 4 and scored one run, Jake went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs and Tyler went 1 for 3 and drove in two runs.
The game was close for the first five and a half innings with Ramberg pitching out of trouble in the third inning with help from an outstanding defensive play by center fielder, Wyatt Soderquist, and the infield turning a 6-4-3 (Brian Schultz to Packy Lind to Jake Maros) double play in the sixth inning.
Coach Steve Allen said the key to the game was that many of the Redbird hitters had numerous good at-bats, forcing the Champlin pitchers to work hard and throw a lot of pitches.
The ‘Birds will now play the Forest Lake Brewers on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. in Forest Lake. Tournament play will continue on Sunday, Aug. 12 with the top two teams moving on to the State Super Section Tournament. The Super Section Tournament will be made up of the 16 best Class B teams in the State.
