Knights of Columbus Council donates to Special Olympics
Every year, near the end of April, the Cambridge Knights of Columbus Council 12813 puts on a donation vest, stands in front of stores and gives out Tootsie Rolls.
In return, the K.C.’s hope the public will donate to the Special Olympics program in Cambridge. And give they did. The total donation given to the Special Olympics Panther Team this year was $1,199.
In her thank you letter to the Knights of Columbus, Ms. McIntyre, head of the delegation at the Cambridge Special Olympics, stated that the athletes and coaches from the program have been active in bowling since June and are looking forward to the Area level and State level competitions in the fall. The Knights of Columbus also sponsor the State Bowling tournament for Special Olympics.
She further explained that during the past 2011-12 program year the Panthers were involved in many sports, including bowling, golf, bocce, table tennis and swimming. Athletes have participated in both area and state level competitions throughout the year. The Panthers also have just competed in area level bocce and golf and look forward to the state competitions in August.
The coaches involved in the program are certified in Level 1 education. Many are sport Specific level 2 certified.
She further noted that the monetary donations received help to defray training and competition costs, buy sports equipment, purchase uniforms, as well as provide seasonal socials and recognition.
